There are two categories of hormone replacement therapy.

Bioidentical hormones are derived from a yam or soy and match the exact same molecule that your body produces.

Non bioidentical hormones are synthesized chemically and mass produced.

What are bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones share exactly the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your body. This means bioidentical hormones are processed and metabolized as if your body made them.

Because of this, some believe using bioidentical hormones carry fewer side effects and risks than conventional i.e non bioidentical hormones which are not an exact molecular match to your body’s own hormone. Bioidentical hormones come from the wild yam or soybean and  are then “tweaked” in a lab to become bioidentical to the human body.

Examples of bioidentical hormones include  progesterone, estrogen (“biest”), testosterone, DHEA, and thyroid  hormone (dessicated thyroid).
